With The Sun on hiatus for Winter Break, there is time for us Sunnies to see the world that exists beyond the confines of 139 W. State St. Thanks to Project Interchange, I will be spending the next week in Israel with a delegation of student journalists from across the country.

A non-profit institute of the American Jewish Committee, Project Interchange seeks to connect emerging world leaders with Israel and facilitate dialogue through week-long educational seminars. Since its inception in 1982, Project Interchange has sent over 5,000 journalists, politicians, academics and others to Israel, all of whom bring varied expertise and points of view to the country.

In the coming days I will be meeting with professors, students, journalists, soldiers, security officers and policy advisers, among others, who will all offer incite on Israel and the nation's role in regional and international politics. Traveling throughout the country, I will visit a military base, a Kibbutz, the Yad Vashem Holocaust museum, the Western Wall, Mount Massada, swim in the Dead Sea and reside in a Bedouin tent in the town of Sderot.

Tomorrow I will depart from New York and head to Tel Aviv for what will be a crash course in international reporting for me and my 17 fellow student editor travel-mates. Depending on Internet access, I will update as regularly as possible this blog, which will serve as my reporter's notebook throughout the trip.
